Hi,
I have seen the photo of the smoking car used in a March 1954 RMC (p22). They had a side view drawing of the car. Darned is I missed seeing the details on the end - offset door and window.
I'd not seen the baggage/mail car. Thanks.
It is interesting that the the original equipment types (4-wheel cars, 2-4-0s, 2-6-0s, 4-wheel tenders, etc) were very quickly (less than 2 years) shown to be inappropriate for long distance (along the Front Range) use. What was adequate for 20-30 mile industrial quarry line did not work for 100+ mile operations.
I am wondering if the peaked roof way car was a converted 14' box car or a converted 17' flat car. I do not know. Removing the end platform seems extreme BUT ....
