Magma Arizona had 3 SG steam locomotives - 2-8-0 #5, 2-6-0 #6, 2-8-2 #7. #5 is stuffed and mounted in a museum in Galveston, TX, #6 is likewise in Scottsdale, AZ, #7 runs at the Texas State RR. The Magma AZ was the last steam freight operation in the southwest US, running stem until Sept, 1968.
The Magma mine is now owned by Resolution Copper Co., Who is doing active development work with the property. They recently succeeded in getting a land swap through congress that will allowed them to proceed with their plans. Once the main is back in operation, the Magma Arizona will come back to life.
The MAR did not have anything to do with the Ray mines. They are over the hills to the south. A separate RR serves them. Today it is run by the Copper Basin Ry. However both the CBRY and MAR interchange with the old SP Phoenix line at Magma Junction.
