Russ,
Thanks for pointing out the 2009 discussion on the NGDF, particularly your photos with the tinted areas. While I'v served on the Friends' tree crew four of the past nine years, most of the work has been focused on trimming and cutting to keep the growth off the roadbed (low) and away from the train and people on it (high), as well as visibility of signs along the ROW. We did do some serious thinning of an aspen grove west of Windy one year (2009) at the railroad's request to reduce snow accumulation there over the winter. I haven't been the crew's leader in the past, but I don't recall discussion about improving or maintaining visibility for photography purposes. I'll put that in my mental checklist while scouting the line in June for places needing attention, and I'll jot down the specific places noted back in 2009. If you think of more, please let me know via private message or email. That goes for anybody else as well. No promises, but suggestions are welcome. A lot of our work is based on solicited suggestions and observations by the train operators, but we always seem to spend at least one day in the Narrows.
Paul
