Nobody wants to keep people away or limit the number of people who see the event. Well, OK, some people want their fraud-o-graphs, and would want to limit the people who watch to just themselves. But they aren't going to fund the run themselves either.

The issue is simply that most of the route to Cumbres is easily accessable from public highways, so it makes it tough to sell the tickets necessary to fund the run. And lets face it, the best view is not from the train.
