I'm curious as to how spontaneous an event like this could be. How many railfans could (or would) show up with, say, 48hrs notice? Could something like this be funded by such a group, kept on the down low, and executed with minimal fanfare and publicity?

Honestly though, I don't understand why there is such a problem with public access.

I know the railroad needs return on their investment, and that many of you fine folks pay large amounts of money for charters and such. But it really strikes me as counter productive to want to limit public exposure. In the end, is it really that bad if a family with kiddos or a secret train enthusiast takes your photo spot? In the end, I'd rather them get the shot, as it propagates our hobby and interest.

Am I missing something here?
