The Reader RR prairie (I believe it was #11) wore out on the Hartwell after a few years of good service. The owner of the Reader 2-6-2 just rented the Hartwell for running. After a couple of years of being dead, volunteers (some from the Atlanta Chapter NRHS) banded together and restored the 2-6-2. A lot of sweat equity as well as alot of personal money was put into the loco to get it running (or so the story goes). This was in the early 1990's.
After running a few times on the Hartwell, the owner of the loco sold it to the midwest upsetting those who had given 2 years of free time to the restoration with no reimbursement or even a thank you.
Hartwell had two GE 44 tonners and a tank car. They GE's were back up for the SW1200. In about 1994 or 1995, the Hartwell loaned them to the Southeastern RR museum. They regularly pulled the museum train until the museum moved down the road in the summer of 1998.
Last I heard (summer of 1999) the lower numbered GE had a bad engine and two bad motors and the other motor had a transmission leak. The other loco had two bad traction motors and a bad generator. They spliced the two and are working on the remaining parts.
One of the Hartwell's 44 tonners was obtained second hand from the NYO&W and is one of half a dozen or so NYO&W pieces of motive power left.
