Good, now is the valve integral with the whistle, all in the
same casting? If it says Lunkenheimer on that, then you have a
Lunk, but if there is a close nipple between the bowl of the
whistle and the valve, then I'd tend to think of Powell.
Earl will back me up on this, but the large Powell that was on
one of the K-36 types for years had the same arrangement, a
separate Lunkenheimer valve with close nipple between. That one
came off of Rayonier 2-6-6-2 120 and would raise the hair on the
back of your neck. I had her on 3T Heisler 10 at Klamath for the
summer of '72 and still remember that beautiful sound.
