A lot of mixed trains. And a lot of freight trains. I was surprised by how much freight is moved from Chur to Samedan and vice versa. And a lot of logs on flatcars. While the difficult mountain roads for the trucks are clearly part of the answer, it would be interesting to know why so much freight moves over such short distances by what is clearly an expensive rail operation. I'm guessing the government creates some incentives to keep trucks off the road.
The four days I was there were mostly cloudy, but we had a bit of sun. I hiked up to the Landwasser overlook in bright hot sun, but of course when the trains came the sun had disappeared.
First visit in fourteen years, but now I want to go back again.
