I don't think there is any indication that they had an acess spur at Alder Springs that would have led below the trestle. Kights I have never been to, but I think that is the one where #50 piled up and a steep shoofly was built to haul it back up to the mainline. At Alder Spring/Styx there are spurs on both ends of the trestle that go back into the canyon. The one on the east end is not shown on any of the maps we have. The late Ron Harr was convinced that it had been an early mainline route likely with a much tighter curved trestle. It could have been revamped very early if he was correct. The spur on the other end actually leads up the canyon into at least two logging grades. There is or used to be a busted brake cylinder below where the two logging lines joined as if a load got loose on the westerly log spur and didn't make the switch. My impression is that the B&B crew also used the spur to put their outfit cars on when doing anual maint.
