Re: S.V.Ry. Styx/Alder trestle

I have attached two photos I copied from the Baker County Library. The first is labeled, I believe incorrectly, as being Kights trestle on the Prairie City extension. I believe this is actually a photo of the Styx/Alder trestle, and if you look at the very left side of the photo, just above the working men's heads and across the tracks at the base of the distant trees is the small trestle whose location can still be found on the spur that is located on the east side of Styx/Alder trestle. Apparently, we aren't going to know for sure the purpose of this eastern spur. I originally thought that this spur having a small but still substantial trestle/bridge was an indicator that it must have been something more than just a construction spur, as has been suggested, perhaps the lead for an older and smaller radius trestle. But having explored more RoW in the last few years, these RR's must have been able to throw simple trestles and bridges together fairly quickly, because they are everywhere in the woods, so putting a small trestle in a short spur really wouldn't be as big a deal as I originally thought, so in and of itself means nothing. Can anyone tell me if this photo is of the original trestle or a replacement? Notice the difference in construction between the two time frames.


The second photo is also Styx/Alder trestle, taken from the west end looking east. This photo has me wondering about the tracks in the foreground hanging out into thin air, on ties. Was this a speeder car set-off, or does this have something to do with the trestle being rebuilt when it burned? And does anyone know how many times the Styx/Alder trestle was rebuilt/replaced?
