The Uintah air hose is built to couple above the coupler to prevent packed snow from pushing the hoses up and breaking the connections. It was also easier for the crew to reach, but I believe harder to bend the hose to make the coupling. Maybe someone in this reading can say they have done that work function with the cars at Grand Junction.
