The engine house in Whitehorse, YT is used to house the narrow gauge trolley that operates about a mile of track in Whitehorse. The trolley pulls a generator behind the car. There is no overhead wire in place. The tracks was originally torn up and some railroad buildings (I believe) were torn down to improve downtown? The track had to be rebuilt after it was removed in town. I believe this was the City of Whitehorse that did this?
The tracks are restored as far as Carcross, YT. Trains Unlimited has operated steam excursions as far as Carcross. In 1998 a TUT excursion was suppose to start in Carcross. However the Canadian Transport Ministry had not approved the track restoration yet. We also used the Railcar for a short excursion from Log Cabin to Fraser in BC. This was the first use of the new Railcar.
The tracks are still in place to Whitehorse and about 5 years ago a rescue train went to Whitehorse to retrive a loco and some cars stored near Whitehorse. The five 100 class Alco Diesels were sold to the Columbian State Railways. The engines were purchased back a few years ago. On the Northbound return trip along the Pacific coast the barge carrying the locos almost sank. The 103 is still in Columbian colors. There are also two rusting hulks of dumped steam locos at Skagway that were pulled from the Skagway River. I believe a 4-6-0 and a 2-8-0' both pre WW II. The old D&RGW Rotory is still in the River bed near the tracks outside Skagway used as rip rap like the locos.
I am sure someone else can answer some of these questions with a little more information.
