The conversion could have been accomplished on the existing alignment, but would have required widening of cuts and fills as well as bridges. The locomotives and cars could not have been much larger than the narrow gauge however. Small logging mallets, as later became fairly popular in the far West, could have been used, though in 1910 they were not fully developed. The Mikados used on the SV were about as powerful as the early small Mallets.
