Am I to understand these records state these parts were scrapped
as we know were the engines or do they still remain stored?
Just in passing # 474s whistle was recovered in Ogden Utah
in 1946 as scrapping was taking place at the army Depot
where the gentleman eventually gave before he died the
Nathan built whistle to the Then "Heber Creeper" in
1980. The whistle was "punch numbered 474" but the whistle
was cast numbered D&RGW. When I left the Heber Valley in
1990 I was hoping to purchase the whistle which was still
under lock and key but the Ashton family eather sold it
or it was walked off with unfortunatily. I think mabe
the latter. What a beautiful sounding whistle it was.
We used it on 1744 for a short while before the railroad
shut down and the SP 6 chime was returned to be used.
I remember we used 474s whistle on the last double header
with 618 as the helper engine with yours truly at the throttle.
Such a shame that whistle is gone!
