Looks like the 6411 is missing the plow in that last photo? Guess I never realized the SD9 is a 6 axle unit, also didn't realize the line was strong enough to host a 6 axle as the current units are 4 axles.
Would be cool to see 641 on the rail again! I've heard that when it was donated to the city of Leadville by the C&S there was a clause that stated it could NEVER be returned to service. I'm guessing that clause was in there so that the locomotive could not be used to compete against the C&S?
The LC&S is a great tourist railroad with million dollar views but to me it seems as if they are happy doing things the way they're currently done and not looking to change at all. I asked what the chances are of the line and service being restored to the mine if it were to make money and was politely told they weren't interested...bummer. Also asked if they've ever ran or thought about running a double header up the mountain, also said no. A man can dream can't he?
As far as the yard in Leadville goes, pretty sure the UPRR tore up the old DRGW portion when they tore up the last mile of the Leadville branch for donation of the ROW for the town for the bike path. I hope to check it out after the snow melts and see what is or isn't there.
