Climax Branch water tank

I was reading an article online somewhere about the C&S Climax Branch and the water tank caught my eye. Of course now that I'm searching for the article with the photos in question I can't find it. Anyways the article talked about NG and SG operations and had a photo of a narrow gauge train coming down grade with the water tower on the uphill (conductor's) side of the train. The article also shows the same water tank with a standard gauge train at the same spot but the tank is on the opposite side of the track.

Looks like the tracks were realigned at the very least, is it possible the SG trains took water from the opposite side? I don't know much about steam power but I've always been under the impression it could be donw from either side.

If you go there in person you can still see rails up to the side of the tank but they're not connected to the current stretch of operational line. It's been awhile since I've been up there but I could have sworn the rails were SG.
