I still wish that the San Luis and Rio Grande would think about restoring one of the K-37 to Standard Gauge operation.
I know that this is not a probable cause now a days but it was my friends Dream. As stated about a year ago. I had a really good friend that grew up on the outskirts of Romeo, Colorado. He worked all his life as a Machinist in multi-places at one time. His Uncle was a Machinst in the Alamosa Shops, and as I recall his father also worked for the Rio Grande. His Biggest dream was to buy one of the K-37's, they that were being stored in the Alamosa Roundhouse during most of his later lifetime, and turn it into the Standard Gauge 2-8-0 C-41. He was going to trade or sell the running gear off to pay for the the standard gauge equivelent. But as the years went on and the outcome of K-37's went to the D&S and C&TS and the CRRM his flicker of fire faded.
He had a pretty good collection of tools, switches and track and when they leveled the roundhouse he was able to get one of the wash basins that his uncle used while working there. It really is sad to see change. My friend died of a brain aneurysm in 1993, but before he died he trained me to love the Narrow Gauge. So for as little as I know about the Rio Grande and the Narrow Gauge. I still appreciate a good Dream.
