Thanks for redirecting this thread. The issue of stuff-and-mounting 483 in Chama is a really bad idea. Before they decide which engine to put on display, how about an expert's opinion along with some boiler thickness data collected in those spots know for problems on each engine.
The 490's boiler was designed and built and ran for 20 years before the K36 engines were produced. Looking at the 492 and 483 beside each other you can see the design differences in the number or lack of flexible staybolts in each boiler. It would be sad to stuff and mount 483 and then do a form 4 on 492 and find it unsuitable for today's regulations or require a new boiler. To my knowledge neither boiler has really been tested for wall thickness.
