According to Art Wallace's book "Masons Steam Locomotives" the locomotive came from the New York & Manhattan Beach Railroad as the "C.L. Flint". The locomotive in the photograph appears to construction # 571 with 11"x 16" cylinders and 36" drivers. Other Mason 0-4-4t locos from the NY&MBRR had larger clinders and drivers. Prior to being purchased by the NY&MBRR this locomotive was used extensively at the fairgrounds of the Centenial Exposition of 1876 in Philadelphia. At that time this locomotive advertised the Mason Machine Works and was know as "Centenial Locomotive. This locomotive was disposed of from the NY&MBRR about 1881-1882 before going to the Grafton Center Railroad. The locomotive also appears to have been rebuilt with a taller casing around the steam dome.
