According to the book Rio Grande Narrow Guage- the final Years, Alamosa to Chama by Joseph P. Hereford, Jr. and Ernest W. Robart. the 483 returned light to Alamosa. 473 took the train and 481 to Durango. With the Rio Grande anticipating a favorable decision on abandonment storing equipment at Chama would make scrapping more difficult. By having high value items at one location (Alamosa) would make scrapping easier. Hostlers were driving from Alamosa and Durango to service the locomotives at Chama so the roundhouse had no service staff. If adbandoment had been denied it would have created difficulties in possibly preparing the locomotive for an anual inspection. The Alamosas shop was better able to do the work. My question is with 476 and 478 getting work inthe Winter of 1967-68 when did the 473 head to Alamosa and what work if any did it recieve?
