Is 478/480's DRGW-built 3 chime the same as the one that was on 318 and 340 when they worked out of Montrose? They look the same although it seems that somewhere in time 478's lost its "top".
It's a cool sounding whistle, but ya' gotta blow it LOUD.
I agree, 3 chimes do sound "prettier" and play better than 5 chime, but some engines just need a 5 chime on them. I can't imagine a 490 with a "pretty" whistle. They need a real cat-caller DRGW 5 chime or perhaps a good "hoot" with a bit of edge to it......
