"Gwen" was built in 1920, makers number - 1404 (British for builders number) She was slightly larger than "Jack" who was the first of this type (18" gauge, based on 2' gauge quary locos.) built (Makers Number 684 - 1898). The following group of 12 were delivered to the Royal Arsenal Railway at Deptford over a three year period 1915 - 1917 (oil burners). "Gwen" (coal fired) was the last of these built for the John Knowles Co. and is said to be the last commercially built 18 inch gauge locomotive in England. The only two remaining examples of this class of locomotive are "Jack" in the Leeds Industrial Museum, Leeds, England (operable) and "Gwen" (operable).
