This week the body of Caboose 1008 was removed from a yard in the Northridge area of Los Angeles. The property were the caboose was located was being cleared for new development and needed to be clear by the end of this year.. The property owners were prepared to bulldoze the site but ended up sending some photos to the California State Railroad Museum. Kyle Wyatt ended up contacting Randy Babcock at the D&S to let him know about the body. Randy contacted his dad, Bobby Babcock to investigate the caboose. It turned out to be C&S #1008 without trucks and missing a lot of its hardware. It had been placed on concrete piers but ended up sinking into the ground exposing the underframe. On Tuesday the caboose was manuvered onto a flatbed trailer and unloaded at its new owner's yard in the Los Angeles area. The new owner plans on restoring the caboose after acquiring plans and photos to help restore it to its orginal condition.
Does anyone have any knowledge about this caboose? It is believed it was stored in Leadville and then moved to Alamosa. Unknown who acquired it and how and when it made it to the Los Angeles area.
