"I don't agree though with the premise that this forum should be restricted to D&RGW history. Not that I don't enjoy reading about the D&RGW, but Don's introduction says narrow gauge and steam railroads and modeling. The Colorado railroads are an interesting and important part of narrow gauge history, but they are certainly not all of it. Anyone who concentrates on the D&RGW to the exclusion of everything else is missing a majority of narrow gauge history. That is not to say that anyone who wants to do so isn't welcome to, but don't expect the rest of us to do so."
I agree with Jim's statement above. Although I have accepted that it is primarily a Colo. narrow gauge forum. I like the historical articles of all ng and short lines, which are by nature few and far between. That's ok. Not all of us are historians, but most enjoy learning how something came into being and why.
Right now I am trying to find time to research, with the help of folks like Jim Grigsby, the history of S-Wye on the SVRy. But, it is taking a lot of time, more than I can seem to find. We want to rebuild S-Wye, because we need a wye at Sumpter. Letting folks know the history seems to me the best place to start.
I glance at the ngdiscussion just about every day, reading the posts that start out with significant news or history. I pass up anything that becomes idle chatter, or yet another solution to the Labato Trestle crisis.
If significant history and news were the only things posted, I suspect posting would drop by 80%.
Maybe there could be a portion devoted entirely to photos, rather than having them spread out in the discussion forum.
Just some of my thoughts.
