Farewell - sort of

September 03, 2010 01:25PM avatar
I have decided to cut back my participation at the NGDF in light of recent events. I spend too much time here anyway, so no big loss. Most people won't care, anyway.

My fascination with the Narrow Gauge began back in 1970, when I first rode the D&RGW's Silverton train. I was already fascinated by railroads in general and was a casual model railroader at that time (age 12). Even at that age I was fascinated by the past, especially the mining and railroad history of Colorado. The Colorado scenery was an added bonus.

One of the reasons for my frequent visitation to this board is my fascination with history. I prefer the threads that relate to historical data and operations, such as those by Jerry Day, John Templeton, and many others.

I think it is unfortunate that when the C&TS and the D&S were formed that they chose not to incorporate the name 'Rio Grande' as part of their moniker. This would have eliminated some of the "branding" issue about having "Rio Grande" on the tender.

This board seems to be becoming more like the "Goat" as time goes on. The overwhelming emphasis on the C&TS is starting to bore me. Especially all the useless speculation about the Lobato bridge.

The other thing that bothers me is the general lack of courtesy that some posters have toward one another, especially if they disagree with the point being made. It is ok to disagree, but it is not ok to attack the poster you disagree with.

I have participated on this board since it's beginning many yahren ago. I will continue to lurk from time to time.

I guess you can disapprove this post also, if you want to Chris.

Scott Green

P.S. Is there a discussion board that is dedicated to D&RGW NG history somewhere?
