Just a passing thought. If one of the locos pointed the other way, you could top and tail a train to run down to Lobato and back from Cumbres -- then run on to Osier to meet the train up from Antonito.

Some extra loco mileage, some pretty complicated shunting, but you would get two locos on a train on the big hill.

All provided US Regulations (of which I confess ignorance) allow such a thing.
