An extensive discussion of the Miller platform and coupler with definitive drawings appears in John White's American Railway Passenger Car, pp. 563-567. The coupler was widely used into the early twentieth century, but its disappearance was seemingly not well documented. The coupler in the photo is indeed a Miller hook, as it was sometimes called.
