This shows my ignorance on the Sumpter Valley RR. I always assumed that the line ran from Baker to Sumpter, with a spur off to the south from the present day location of the reservoir that ran about 10 miles for logging. I didn't realize that the line actually went up in the area of John Day. Do you guys have any information as to when this portion of the line was abandoned?
I did a small amount of exploration of that area during my 3 years in Boise, gorgeous area around John Day.
