What Scott says makes good sense. Back in 1992 we also took the road out of Antonito to beyond Fergusons Trestle. We finally had to turn back on account of the thick sage brush between the ruts in the road which were scraping the bottom of the vehicle badly.
Currently I own a Mazda Tribute 4WD, and would not hesitate trying the road to Sublette or Big Horn, but I am wondering about all that sage brush even with decent clearance.
Our medium size SUV was good on the beaches of the Outer Banks, NC a couple of times, so I think it should be okay for the C&TS. I hope to find out in 2011.
