Greg,

You have to remember that this was also the break in run for the 473 and they were heading up over Cumbres in Snow. They probably had some extra hands available in case something happened along the way from Alamosa to Chama. The next day when the 473 headed to Durango the 483 went back to Alamosa with the extra caboose.
