When some of the Chama crew got together with Jim Pearce, Eldon Morgan, and Carl Jack over in Alamosa for dinner around 2001, I remember stories being told that the Conductor would search the ROW area for good candidate Xmas trees on the way over to Chama. Then the train would make a short stop on the way back to Alamosa to obtain the selected tree. One of the guys mentioned that one time the conductor spotted an exceptionally nice specimen and dumped the air to stop the train. The resultant emergency stop ripped a drawbar out of a car and caused a "minor" delay in getting the train back in order...
