During her time in Montana SP&S 700 was worked HARD. And when she was slogging up the 2.2% grade of Mullan Pass hauling a train twice again as long as her NP sisters did, diesel purposely put near idle and with exhaust that could be heard for 30 minutes before her arrival her stack was clear. Oddly enough it was on the flat at speed she brought the black.
