My brother was in China twice. I have never been impressed with those QJ's. They never seem to be working hard(seem to be running at half throttle, and maybe thats why they have to doublehead), and therefore
are told to burn clean as well I am told. The best time to shoot was in the winter as you got cold steam effects if no smoke. Winter is the best time to shoot any steam in my opinion.
I think you get more smoke out of coal burners as a rule, and thats why I like them over oilburners. I walked through many steam facilities in Europe(Spain comes to mind), and you have all this crappy oil all over your shoes.
Did you ever get any of the SL Pacifics. They had the weezy sounding exhuasts?
