1976- Colorado Central

Continuing our epic saga of vacations in 1975 & 1976. After a bit if a disappointing time with the 74 in Boulder, it was west out of town, over the hill and on to Central City, hoping to find a more-intact specimen of C&S motive power and some steam in action.

In Central city we found #71 on prominent display along with the Combine. Looking good.



#40 was in the yard.



#14 was out and about on the train...





We rode the train in '75 and made some extremely mediocre sound recordings of #14. This was my first experience with an operating Shay. While it was cool, I really liked the rod engines. If 40 had been running when we stopped by in '76, we would have ridden. But, as 14 was out and we had already "seen that, done that", after lunch it was off to Silver Plume.
