HighCommander,
So why turn such a very informative thread into a personal preference event? I would not think someone with your high powered name would want to expose himself to having made such a grievous error of intelligence for all of his life. It sounds like you’re very embarrassed by making a change. I would bet that this use of Jeffery name developed as a cuss word about the spike and is a very derogatory use of the President of the D&RG’s name. Look at all the damage you have done to the esteem of the office of the President of the D&RG! And you have likely never attempted to find the correct name of the spike so that you would not be using a cuss word each time you sold one.
Are you speaking the official position of the Colorado Railroad Museum as I understand you work there?
“but as the name Jeffery has been used for longer than I've been alive, I prefer to continue using that name. I don't think you should dictate discontinuing the Jeffery term for historic correctiveness. Allow the majority of us out here to deviate from what you consider incorrect.”
I don’t think that suggesting crossing out the name Jeffery regarding the spike is in any way dictating. You and the majority can be as dumb and you want but what does that have to do with ng history? Why not try to find out when and why that name was applied and for what reason that a President’s name is applied to a simple spike when the spike had a name as Mr. Lee detailed. Another example of “If you don’t like the message, attack the messenger” and why some really knowledged people do not post here any longer. The challenge is for you to now do some real research.
