Questions:
I note that Clate Braswell on many days, makes a Balwin turn, gets back into his home terminal (Gunnison), then departs on a Crested Butte turn, and gets back in many times under 12 hours. Did he get paid for departing the home terminal a second time as a penalty? Or was this an assigned job to make both turns when traffic warranted? He would have gotten mileage for both, but how did the agreements work as far as the penalties go? Or initial or final terminal or engine changes?
On this particular date engineer would receive pay for 2 runs, or 2 basic days.

Engineer was on duty 5 hours 40 minutes for the Baldwin run and 5 hours and 50 minutes for the Crested Butte run. Being two separate runs overtime would not apply.

In that these runs took place on branches and were not through runs initial terminal delay would not apply. Final terminal delay would occur when held on duty for 30 minutes or more after arrival at terminal and would be paid for the actual time at pro rata rates. Of course there could be other factors involved whether FTD would be paid, such as being on duty long enough for overtime, then only overtime would be paid.

For this date’s type of situation there was no penalty, or payment for engine change. Engineers pay was based on the locomotive size, weight on drivers. For each increase of weight on drivers the rate would increase a few cents. Running engine 498 would pay a slightly higher rate than running engine 278.

When two trips were made on the Baldwin branch, between Gunnison and Baldwin, back to back, by the same crew, they were paid for one basic day, plus overtime if on duty over 8 hours.
