Hi, Jim -
THANK YOU for posting your notes. It is good to get an objective view of recent events.
My experience with the railroad over Cumbres predates the C&TS by several years; I first
rode a three-day excursion from Alamosa to Silverton & return in 1960, was present for the
last D&RGW revenue freights over Cumbres in 1968, and have been an occasional volunteer
supporting the the C&TS since early September, 1970. I first posted a reminder of the 40th
Anniversary on the NGDF four or five years ago, and must accept some responsibility for the
upcoming celebration as I may have instigated it during a conversation with Alan Loomis in
September, 2008. (See my highlights in your notes, below.)
I agree wholeheartedly with your comments regarding the hard work of the track crew and shop crews, and have previously posted several photos of their efforts last year in hopes they would enjoy seeing themselves on the web (see the threads beginning at [
ngdiscussion.net] and [
ngdiscussion.net]).
