Of all the fan trips I ran on the C&TS, Jim's were the best. They were well organized, the crew always knew what was next, and Jim was flexible when things went wrong. He was accused of being too rigid and too military, but his guys were the only group that could get 300 people off a train, lined up, do a runby, get them back on board and underway in less than 20 minutes. Other folks I had to schedule 30 minutes for a runby of less than 50 people. Jim had it wired...
BTW the 1996 trip turned out to be the last one I did with Jim. I missed out on the 97 trip do to Carmen's kidney transplant happening. The next year I was gone and I don't think Jim ever came back.
