Howdy, Y'All -
Inspired by Bill Keppner's post a couple of weeks ago – see [
ngdiscussion.net] – I dug into my closet and uncovered several dozen 6x7 cm negatives taken in September, 1996, most of which are of two excursions which Jim Trowbridge organized. IIRC the first was a two-day round trip from Chama to Antonito - eastbound on September 17 and returning westbound on September 18 - with #463 pulling short freights while #497 was pulling the regular daily train.
The second charter was a one-day round trip from Chama to Big Horn on September 19, with #497 as the road engine and #463 on the point from Chama to Cumbres and then as mid-train helper for the rest of the trip. I am not at all certain about these dates, so corrections and additional information will be most welcome.
The weather was gloomy most of the day on the 17th, although the sun almost broke through as the freight passed Dalton:
The road to Osier was a mess; after fishtailing and nearly losing control in a big mudhole, I turned around and went back to Sublette:
Here's the whole enchilada in a light drizzle, approaching the big curve near M.P. 305:
