Re: Common NGDF abbreviations ... grinning smiley

Hi, Greg -

A few of the common NGDF abbreviations are:

IIRC = If I Remember Correctly *   confused smiley
IMHO = In My "Humble" Opinion **     eye rolling smiley
N(N)NG = Not (Necessarily) Narrow Gauge ***   eye popping smiley

There are several others, but the above are the ones I use most often.

I also use the thumbs-up "smiley", usually twice - thumbs upthumbs up - when somebody posts something that I really appreciate, but very seldom use the "up-yours" two-finger double-flip-off "smiley" - >grinning smiley< - (which some people mistakenly use in place of two thumbs-ups), even when I strongly disagree with a post.   ("Profanity is the desperate attempt of a feeble mind to express itself forcefully", IMHO.)

- Russo

  * The affects of significant quantities of Negra Modelo, Old Peculier, Arrogant Bastard Ale and Laphroaig Whiskey on my memory (and more than 2/3 of a century of life) should be taken into account whenever I post something preceded by this disclaimer.

** As one of the Seven Curmudgeons (originally the Five Old Farts named by Roger Hogan), and a frequent consumer of Arrogant Bastard Ale, it may safely be assumed that "Humble" is inserted here merely as an attempt to be polite, and should not be taken too seriously.

*** (On the Subject Line): The following post most likely references standard-gauge steam, but may occasionally digress into semi-Libertarian (anti-Big-Government / anti-Big-Corporation) humble political opinion (see **, above).
