Hello, Dave -
The old classroom in Palmer Hall at Colorado College where I took an advanced calculus
class in 1961 was primarily used by the Geology Department, and there were numerous
maps scattered about, one of which was a bright multi-colored affair showing the various
strata and types of rock in the vicinity of Clifton and Morenci. This map also showed a
very twisting railroad line with several bridges and tunnels and, IIRC, a loop somewhat
like the one at Tehachepi where the railroad passed through a tunnel and then crossed
back over itself. I became so interested in the railroad that I visited the area briefly on one
of my from-home-to-college road-trips a year or so later, but wasn't able to spend any time
exploring the right-of-way.
Thank you for posting all this fascinating information about a railroad that I had forgotten about for more than 45 years!
