This next image takes us east of the Gila River crossing as the grade hugs the rim on that side. Mile post 1 is indicated in blue at the bottom of the image.
This following image shows the sharp bend that the line made to head south towards the Arizona & New Mexico. This view also shows milepost 0, the starting point for the MS. The A&NM bridge across the river doesn't quite line up with the present day bridge. The ROW may have been straightened some in later years. Even so the bridge doesn't seem like it was drawn correctly on this map unless the stream bed has really changed since then!
The map set also includes a more detailed station map for Guthrie. I'll have to try and get that processed to see what the transfer facility was like between the two railroads. this is the type of stuff that I have a lot of fun doing. I wish that I had lots of web space and could post the overlay data online. Then you could zoom in and out and wander down the grade. The fun part is going to be to try and put together the overlays for the northern end of the line. With all the mining activity there isn't much to go on in the modern aerials. But I really want to see all of those loops that made it up the hill!
