John:
I was there just 4 months later than you -- 1st week of April 1962, also photographing 641 from Climax to Leadville. A couple of my photos were shot from the same place, so let me do some "pearl diving" and see if that building shows up.
It looks as though it may have been a car shop with those very large doors at the right hand end. Chimneys appear on each side of those doors & a third chimney appears partway down the side of the building closest to you. I'm ignoring the freestanding building that is closer to you and not attached to the big structure.
That portion with the 3 chimneys probably would be where repairs took place. At 10,000 feet, whatever stoves are attached to those chimneys would be needed.
The portion further down, with all the windows but no chimneys, could be an indoor car storage area or a paint shop.
However, the building just as easily could be a city or county truck repair and maintenance facility for all the same reasons.
With best regards, Hart
