One thing that amazes me is that I never stop learning about it,Its like perpetual motion in a time machine, and then there are the details such as how well the aspen gold paint color goes against the changing leaves as well as how well all of the other colors go with there surroundings, the sound of the flange squeal that is unique to chilled iron wheels and let us not forget the D&RGW whistles.Another thing that makes it so great is that what is left is not just becoming a forgotten memory, but is getting better and better!
It is amazing how many man hours are going into the preservation of these railroads and its equipment year by year decade by decade. In closing I believe that what keeps me hooked is peoples fierce dedication to protecting something that could have been so easily lost.
I will also say how amazing it was for a narrow gauge railroad to run in such a standard gauge fashion,by this I mean trains that were solid blocks of one commodity.
Oh yeah I almost forgot,I think a D&RGW dark olive green boiler jacket on #489 for one season would be a nice thing to see and am sure would persuade people to Chama yet one more time to ride and enjoy!!!
