I will have to go look through my books to see which critter the No.74
was. Any ideas why certain engines were saved over others? Your comment
about a "poor steamer" leads me to think that a less-than-optimal piece of
equipment would lead more directly to the scrapper's torch than a better
steamer, no? I always found the No.58 and No.68 and No.73 to be beautifully arranged in the their final forms, and they were in service on the wrecking trains as the evil doers pulled up track and brought this wonderful hunk of history to an end. Were not all of these in operating shape at the end, and all were cut up?
One of my books states that the No.76 that retired out of Climax to
Leadville in 1943 was placed on display in Leadville. Does this one survive
too?
I am way out here in Spokane, so this is all long distance to me!
Thanks!
Brent.
