For a brief period of time in 1997/98, the place at Los Pinos was called "Doc Hollidays". I was interested in the details of this small development, so I went in there and talked with the developer. The fella was a middle-aged hispanic guy who had been embibing in some sort of alcoholic beverage most of that day, it seemed, for the world was his friend and best buddy. I went on my way and didn't think too much about it, except that I resented his plans to develop what I considered to be a scenic and historic site.
Last summer, when I was working with the #19, this same guy came into the restaurant at Antonito, Stefans, I believe is the name. We struck up a conversation and he told me he had 21 children and had been married 11 times. He was still slightly inebriated. He went over to sit with a bunch of fellas with hats that said "Antonito Scummy bunch" or something like that.
At any rate, you meet some interesting characters in Narrow Gauge country.
