Send a check for $100,000 (or 1,000 checks for $100 for that matter) to the Boulder County Railway Historical Society 1936 14th Street Boulder CO 80302, and we will have C&S 74 up and running within a year or so!
On a serious note we (the BCRHS) are working with the City of Boulder to restore the 74 and the rest of the equipment that is displayed with it in Boulder. We are serious & have made progress (take a look at Todd Hackett's posting about coach 280, it was the first peice of equipment from Boulder to be restored) The 74's tender was moved out of the park for restoration last week & the locomotive itself is next in line, pending funding of course.
So, an oppurtunity is in front of you, if enough people out there care and send a few dollars we can see #74 run again and solve the debate over weather it was a poor steamer or the RGS crews just didn't know how to fire it. If no one out there wants to help, we can all sit back at watch it rust into the ground as it has done for the past 50 years. The choice is yours! $$$ and help = running locomotive, apathy & bitching= eyesore rust bucket. (this equation applies to any park locomotive out there, not just the 74)
OK, a little long winded and perhaps overboard, I am not directing this at anyone in particular, just trying to make a point. If anyone wants any info on the restoration of #74 let me know.
