When the line through eastern Utah was standard gauge whole multiple-miles sections of the line were relocated as part of the conversion in gauge.

Yes and no. From Mack to Whitehouse was all new SG alignment through Ruby Canyon. Did you know there was an 11 mile tangent on the NG out on the desert?
West of Whitehouse, especially between Floy and Green River, there were extensive line relocations in the 1920s. The original NG alignments just wouldn't allow for the bigger engines coming into use. If you google earth these areas, you can pick out the original alignments easily. It is amazing the twists and turns the original alignment followed in an area we think of as "flat"! Even on the original SG alignment through Ruby Canyon, there were realignments at that time also. Some original locations became sidings, like at Utaline.
