Sorry but I have to disagree.
Have you been to some of these countries that hate the United States and support/condone terrorism? They hate the United States with a pathological hate. Terrorists like Bin Ladin are hero's.
Countries that do not have peaceful democratic governments do not understand the concept of Western justice. They do understand, however, death and destruction, since that is how their government controls them.
A controlled, peaceful response is going to only encourage these terrorists. They think the United States is a weak nation and can be pushed around.
A massive unilateral military strike that is sustained and highly destructive without concern to who dies IS a response they can understand.
This is what they subjected the United States to. If we do anything less, they will think they have won and we can be made to live in fear.
A level of destruction of life and property in the countries that harbor these terrorists must be of a sufficiently high level that the governments and leaders of these nations, while they may hate the United States, fear that any further terrorist attacks will only lead to similar destruction of their nation. This is how you deal with people like this.
The average citizen of many of these nations supports the concept that the governments of these countries supports these terrorists. So don't tell me they are innocent, they aren't.
Terrorists want us to live in fear. It is they who should live in fear and the only way to do that is to hunt them down and kill them and ALL of the people who support and enable them.
