We were a isolationist country in 1900 and were sewpt into WWI. We attempted to return to isolationism and were swept into WWII.
Now we are the leader of the free world - we are the strongest around. I guess we are becoming not only the world's lightning rod but the world's police man (in spite of the UN).
We (the free world) should be very dilligent on terrorism and controlling it. However I doubt we could ever eliminate it 100%.
To paraphrase the character GOD (played by George Burns in the movie Oh God) "I've never learned how to make a one sided coin". Good and evil will always exist, we must be constantly vigilant in our fight against evil.
I thank Britian's Tony Blair for a Churchill-like speach saying basically that the US is not alone.
There are very few places and times I remember exactly. The first I recall exactly was when in 1979 the prototype space shuttle ENTERPRISE was first released from the back of the 747.
The next time was when I heard that George Bush #1 had started bombing Iraq and now I believe that this attack has become the next memory.
